There will also be some antique guns on display, carved duck callers, framed prints by Tan Brunet and an antique pirogue. There will be display case to pay tribute to Dr. Louis Alfred Ducros, whose daughter donated his home and office to the Parish to be used as a Museum and Research Library.
There will also be a display case to honor Isleno duck carver and decima singer and composer, Irvan Perez. Mr. Perez sang and wrote decimas and performed at New York’s Carneige Hall. Decimas are ten stanza narrative songs that were very popular in Spain as far back as the Middle Ages.
The songs told tales joyous occasions, sad laments and hilarious exaggerations all about everyday life in the community. They are still popular in Spain to this day.
The drawing for the beautiful reclaimed cypress gun cabinet built and donated by Mike Martin will be held on Saturday, January 5, 2013 at the opening reception for exhibitors and their spouses, Parish officials and Fiesta sponsors.
